Mayhap information technology'southward just me… but… every bit a Packard owner I can tell you that I hated the idea of changing the oil simply considering I didn't desire to drib the oil filter casing, re-make and replace the gaskets to the lines, soak my filter canister in kerosene, etc. I actually went out and bought a reproduction type canister that housed a spin on filter thinking that would be easier. It wasn't. I yet had to driblet the canister, re-brand the gaskets, open the canister where the spin on filter was soaked in oil. Information technology was a regal pain. And then … Here's an oil filter conversion kit which accepts a usually found spin on filter. From the tiptop of the engine it looks just similar the original canister but underneath information technology'south like any mod automobile. No more than removing the canister or making new gaskets. Merely bleed the oil, remove the spin on filter as on any mod car. The casing is machined billet aluminum that has been pulverisation coated in a apartment black wrinkle stop. It can be powder coated any color, or painted – your choice. The inside is made up of loftier pressure fittings, hoses, clamps and an oil filter relocation kit. The unit bolts correct up to the original supply lines. Kit includes everything needed to install, including the oil filter and hardware (minus the gaskets). Made in the USA. Every bit I am not that familiar with Packard's original oil filters, and my auto ('39 Six) did not take a factory filter, I'k curious how this unit attaches, both how it is held in place and the bodily oil lines. My 245 CID six has one/viii" NPT ports in the cake and a previous possessor has plumbed lines from those to a modern-twenty-four hour period bracket that uses a spin-on filter. This is only screwed to the fenderwell and doesn't look that nice, or correct. I believe it is attached at that place with standard flare fittings - what does your unit of measurement use?? And is at that place any kind of attachment clamp available to mount the canister if one does not have the original Packard filter to starting time with?? Posted on: 2021/6/15 11:38 | |||

I'thou not certain (sadly) if what I had was an L6 or an L8 filter. What holds the filter in place on my car are the actual oil supply and render lines through two bolts on either side of the filter. At that place are no flare fittings - just a gasket and two bolts on either stop. I have fastened some pictures in an effort to analyze how this unit mounts in my machine (and I assume other Std and Super 8s- not sure about 12s). I can very hands change the blueprint to fit any other applications. I did it all in Solidworks and paired up with a local machine shop and then tailoring it to your specific needs is not a big bargain on this end equally long equally I accept the necessary dimensions. Adding some kind of 'era correct' mounting clamp would also not be a problem. I can design something in CAD and show you what it looks like manner before we do whatever sort of manufacturing. But equally a side note, all the fittings and hoses are rated for 400 psi ... I love to overdesign ... y'all should encounter the exospheric weapon systems I work on during the day... LOL ... Besides bad as information technology looks like a nice slice and a cosmetic 'gear up' for the messy oil-changing woes of those original setups. Like I say, a P.O. HAD plumbed in a modern spin-on filter in my auto - but not the prettiest looking arrangement - although very functional and manner better than no filter at all. Chris. These engines used the Purolator L-6 simply just for this twelvemonth, 1935 thru 1939 used the Fifty-8 version which differed just in how the oil lines were fitted at the inlet and outlet. L-half-dozen connections were via female NPT threads, L-8 used a cap secured by cap screws every bit pictured by Crin. Both were of the disposable, sealed cartridge type with replacement recommended at 8000 mile intervals. The 1934 Viii and Super Eight installation is too unique to but that year, the oil temperature regulator is mounted straight to the water jacket side plate and the filter stands vertically, its outlet connected directly via an NPT nipple to the underside of the oil libation, pictures of the 1934 L-vi installation follow. I don't recall what the Twelves used in 1932 thru 1934 but in 1935 they joined Eights and Super Eights and used the L-8.
